Welcome to my site!
To sum things up.......
The Trail of Tears was a harsh period in our great country. In the early 1800's the law decided to carry out the process of Indian removal, to clear space for meaningless factories and buildings. The result of this was in fact the trail of tears, a devastating trek for American Indians, across America to reservations scattered throughout the greedy nation. While on the trail of tears, many people died of sickness, hypothermia, and undernourishment. "The trail of the exiles was a trail of death. They had to sleep in the wagons and on the ground without fire. And I have known as many as twenty-two of them to die in one night of pneumonia due to ill treatment, cold, and exposure. Among this number was the beautiful Christian wife of Chief John Ross. This noble hearted woman died a martyr to childhood, giving her only blanket for the protection of a sick child. She rode thinly clad through a blinding sleet and snow storm, developed pneumonia and died in the still hours of a bleak winter night..." This is a diary entry from a former soldier on the trail of tears named John Burnett, age 80, looking back on the tragedy many of us seemed to have forgotten. That is why I created this website, to inform readers about these barbarian times. To help you learn, I've created a series of tabs for you too look deeper into the trail of tears.
